Seriously though, what annoys me is I feel like his trade value could be much higher if he wasn't benched so much all year and was able to get a ton of PP time, which would have really inflated his offensive stats and in my opinion greatly increase the return potential for a trade.

i still think if we package him, and a second, we can get a respectable top 6 forward. especially a team that needs either; a: a boost on the PP, or b: a respectable top 6 d man who is young, and cheap.

Gel + 6th (if we stay there) to Col for ROR + 9th?

Gel + 6th to TO for 4th and iffy prospect?

If he gets moved, yeah, I'm looking at the draft for manoeuvring, depending on what happens on Saturday (lottery)...

Any other options?

You didn't hear? We already won the lottery, good news is we're taking Crouse #1 overall

Shall we throw in Henrique for Pateryn, too? Greene for Flynn?

Im all for trading Gelly or Merril for some help up front. But i think i'd rather move Merril. Gelly's shot is a damn fine weapon to have on a PP.

Gelinas -> higher risk, higher reward
Merrill -> safer

I am for trading Gelinas. He is weak defensively and his offense stats are skewed by favorable zone starts and playing vs. weak competition.

I think Merrill is going to bounce back next yr. His decision making and passing are fine. He can also play PK.

I have no problem moving Gelinas. I like him but i think Merrill and Larsson are better at the position.

I see Merrill being an Andy Greene type defender which is totally ok.

If Gelinas is moved that shot will be missed, I love to watch everyone hit the deck when he loads up.

You know damn well if we do trade him (or any of the young D) he will turn into a beast, but we need offense so it is what it is.

Gelinas and a second or third round pick for Lucic? I'm not all that high on Lucic but we could use a player like that because we currently play with the edge of a wussywillow.

I think on another team, if used more consistently than we did, Gelinas can be a very nice and productive weapon.

I'd like to see the numbers, but my eyes tell me I'd rather have Gelinas, and Merrill isn't really anything special. You guys say Merrill is safe and better all around, but is he good at anything? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he gets beat just as much as Gelinas. He's smaller, and doesn't have the quickness to make up for it. He doesn't have a great shot or great playmaking ability.. he's just an average 3rd pairing dman and I haven't seen flashes of anything more.

I'd really miss Gelinas. Having Severson and Gelinas as weapons on D is pretty valuable.

Gelinas + 2nd for Purcell?

He is a proven top 6 guy who would really increase your offense. Just seems that he ain't finding his grove in Edmonton at the moment. Not to mention we have lots offense right now.

Gelinas would be a great addition for us. Shame that he has been benched way too often.

No worries, he can just hook a scrotum or two to propel himself along a little faster.

I'm not really high on Gelly or Merrill, but we are talking about the defensive position and I think it's safe to say Merrill will be a quicker fix defensively than Gelly. We basically had to teach Gelly from start to finish since he got here on the D game, while merrill has the smarts, he just needs to wake up sometimes. Lars and Merrill both look a little too calm and sometimes it leads to mistakes, but I trust Lars calmness and don't trust Merrills. If we can get him to be more aware and actually turn into the next andy greene we all hope he will then it'll be a great scenario for years. Whats the best Gelly turns into? Sheldon Souray? I'd trade gelly in a heartbeat if it meant a forward of similar age with upside. But that said I'm not a big fan of Merrill either, so if we move one of these guys for a forward I'll be very pleased (depending on what forward it is of course). will be interesting to see what we can get if these dominoes actually fall

Seriously dude ? I would be hard pressed to give up a young defenseman who is mobile big and can shoot plus a high second in a deep draft for eberle let alone creaking teddy Purcell (frank) you would need to give us a second to take him.
